Manual deburring - one of the most time-consuming process in the production of small and precision high pressure die castings.

How to automate this process in order to reduce production time and costs?

 

After the talks with Professor Piotr Kuryło from the University of Zielona Góra, we set this task a few months ago for the students of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Institute of Machine Design and Operation, Department of Production Process Automation of the University of Zielona Góra.

 

The challenge, though not easy, was taken up by a group of 20 students. The students were divided into 4 independent teams, which during the semester and classes with us had the opportunity to learn the specifics of the process in a "live" manner and verify their ideas.

 

On Thursday, we were delighted to hear all the presentations and original concepts regarding the manual debburing proces automatization.
The jury considered the work of first team to be the best concept. "The implementation of the project for LUMEL ALUCAST is an innovative and groundbreaking undertaking, thanks to which we were able to face real problems and part and parcel of the industrial market. An additional benefit of such classes is getting to know the company from the inside and establishing contacts that will help us find a job in the future. The competition allowed us to play the role of constructors and showed all aspects of the profession from the practical point of view. I am of the opinion that this kind of competition is the best way to foster creativity in the students, which resulted in the presented projects of automation of the aluminum die-cast cleaning station," said Dominik Radzik – memeber of the winning team.

 

In recognition of their work, all students received company gifts and the winners, on top of the financial award, were offered a paid internship in our factory.

As of next month, the concept chosen by the jury will be implemented. If it turns out to work in practice, which we strongly believe in, further assembly stations will be automated in accordance with its assumptions.
